Best starter Aniimo: what to catch first

The best first picks are Hummin (Break, Grass) and Chirpi (Support, Wind): high stat totals for a Lumin-stage creature, and crucially they appear across four or five regions, so you will meet them quickly. Budclaw and Flutternym round the team out well.

The criterion that actually matters early: availability

At launch, 30 Lumin-stage Aniimo appear in the open world. Many exist in only one region, so recommending them as a first pick makes little sense — you might not meet them for hours.

The right early criterion is therefore: good stats AND wide availability.

The four to aim for first

Hummin — Break, Grass

467 stat points, including 94 HP and 80 Break. It appears in five regions, making it the easiest strong early Aniimo to actually obtain.

Its Break role matters a lot when you are starting: breaking the enemy gauge is exactly what you want before throwing an Aniipod. One Break on the team speeds up every catch you make.

Chirpi — Support, Wind

452 points, with 97 HP and 83 ATK: a sturdy, flexible profile. Found in four regions.

It is the natural partner to Hummin: it absorbs pressure while the Break does its job.

Budclaw — Break, Rock and Grass

454 points, four regions, and above all a dual element (Rock and Grass). Two elements on a single creature is free elemental coverage for your team.

Flutternym — Heal, Wind

437 points with 94 HP, across four regions. It is one of the few genuinely reachable Lumin-stage healers early on. A team with no healing struggles against the first bosses.

If you find them, do not walk past

These have better stats but appear in one region only: do not build your early game around them, but catch them if the chance comes.

What this ranking does not say

Be clear about the method: this comparison rests on base stats recorded from the official index and on how many regions each creature appears in. It does not account for:

  • skill effects, which can flip a ranking;
  • team synergies;
  • how an Aniimo feels to play, which no table captures.

That is deliberately transparent: the full method is on the early game tier list. It will be reworked by hand once we have played enough.

After the early game

Every Aniimo on this page evolves. Check its line on its own page: a good Lumin often becomes a very good Gamma. The overall tier list ranks the whole roster across all stages.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best starter Aniimo?

On base stats, Hummin is the best compromise: 467 stat points, a Break role that helps you catch things, and a presence across five different regions.

Should I reroll for a good start?

No. Creatures are caught, not pulled: restarting changes nothing about what you can obtain.

Will these picks change?

Yes. This ranking rests on base stats, not the meta. It will be revised by hand once the game has been played seriously.
