Twine explained: turning into an Aniimo to explore
Twine is Aniimo's transformation mechanic: you take the form of a creature you have caught and gain its movement ability. Running faster, digging, gliding, jumping high — it is what makes exploring Idyll interesting, and why you should catch broadly.
What Twine is for
Twine lets you take the form of an Aniimo you have caught. It is not cosmetic: each species grants a different ability, and some areas only open with the right form.
The studio describes three uses:
- Movement: cross the world faster, clear an obstacle, reach height.
- Puzzles: some require a specific ability.
- Combat: the transformation can be used in fights.
One ability per species
Every Aniimo has its own movement ability, listed on its page. Across the roster you will find sprint boosts, digging, jumping, flight, stealth and detection abilities.
In practice that means an Aniimo that underperforms in combat can be the only answer to a given obstacle. It is the main reason to catch broadly rather than filter.
Build an exploration toolkit
Rather than keeping only your best fighters, keep a few utility forms around at all times:
- A fast form, for long crossings.
- A jump or flight form, for verticality.
- A digging form, for underground passages.
- A detection form, to find what is hidden.
Those four cover most exploration situations.
Twine and the Aniilog
Every new catch is one more form. The collection tracker built into the Aniidex shows what you are missing at a glance: tick the creatures you have caught, filter on “Missing”, and plan your trips.
Still to confirm
Some points are not documented officially and will only be settled by in-game recording:
- The stamina cost of each ability.
- Any per-zone restrictions.
- Whether a creature’s level affects how its form performs.
We will fill those in as we go, with a verification date.
Frequently asked questions
Can I turn into any Aniimo?
Into the ones you have caught. That is the main reason to catch broadly, including creatures that are mediocre in combat.
Does Twine work in combat?
Yes: the transformation is presented as usable in combat, in exploration and for puzzles.
Which form is fastest?
Creatures with a run or sprint ability. Every Aniimo page lists its movement ability in the Twine section.
